Eugene Perera

My practice centers around the problem of value – aesthetic, economic, symbolic and the corporeal – and the alchemical moments in which ‘re-valuations of value’ are revealed. Such moments are associated with the exercise of power, the operations of chance and engagement with risk.

In recent times my practice has focused on algorithmic and digital re-imaginings and the tensions between fragile corporeal subjectivities and the unyielding technological mechanisms of global capital. In particular, I am intrigued by malfunctioning algorithms and their disruptive potential within unstable flows of capital and production.

I explore these concerns in a practice that is willfully nomadic, operating across video, sound, text, image, performance and the algorithmic.
